“Glenn Toby and BBF Volunteers Launch The Book Bank Foundation’s 2009 “Shelter from the Streets” Charity Campaign Tour, to Distribute Goods to the Homeless in New York City”
New York, NY (December 17, 2009) – The Book Bank Foundation (BBF) will launch it’s “2009 Shelter from the Streets” annual holiday and charity campaign tour, on December 17th in New York City. Traveling to multiple homeless shelters and covering four different New York boroughs throughout the event, Glenn Toby and his BBF army of volunteers will travel by motor coach bus distributing new clothing, blankets, toiletries, toys, and more to families in need this holiday season; giving hope and comfort to those who need it most. “ We are living in uncertain times, the need to help is greater than we have witnessed in recent years. Help us help those who are suffering and in need!” – Jenn Lewis. “These are the toughest times of our lives. Our current conditions demand we use our greatest weapon against poverty and the spirit of lack. Human Beings are our greatest natural resource. We are forced to be a force for good.”- Glenn Toby.
The first stop of the tour is at the Jamaica Family Residence located at 175-10 88th Avenue in Queens, after which the bus will stop at The Concord House at 2752 Grand Concourse in the Bronx; it will then travel to the Auburn Family Shelter at 39 Auburn Place in Brooklyn, and conclude in New York City, at The New York Rescue Mission located at 90 Lafayette St. Throughout the day, volunteers along with Mr. Toby will also visit bus stations, train stations and bridge underpasses to distribute the products to the homeless.
Last year alone, $75,000 dollars worth of product was donated to The Book Bank Foundation for the campaign. Participating companies included: Alador & Smith, Hugo Boss, Kashi Kicks, Rotten Apple, Tommy Hilfiger and Procter & Gamble/Tag Brand. Additionally, generous monetary donations enabled the foundation to rent a Coach bus to transport the goods and volunteers to the various shelter locations.
Over the last 12 years, the BBF has helped nearly 125,000 people as they promote and advocate literacy by using motivational speakers, models of positive behavior, scholastic achievement, and resourceful thinkers to stimulate self-esteem, academic achievement, future goal setting, and stories of achievement in communities where illiteracy exists. The Book Bank Foundation has donated over 450,000 hours of community service over the past decade and has distributed an average of $40,133 worth of donations to the less fortunate per year. They strive to decrease the number of illiterate by providing sound and innovative ways of promoting learning, social awareness, and individual prosperity.
